About Culmen

Culmen builds ISP management software and delivers network engineering to internet service providers and network operators. The platform covers subscriber authentication, fair-use enforcement, uplink failover, content filtering and staff tooling — and it is licensed to be owned, not rented.

What we build

Every module reads and writes the same subscriber record, so authentication, quota and provisioning never disagree about what a customer is entitled to. That sounds obvious until you have watched a subscriber authenticate successfully against one system while another has already marked them suspended.

The platform runs as a suite or as individual engines. An operator who only needs quota and fair-use enforcement should not have to buy billing they will never switch on.

How it is licensed

Perpetual licences with no per-subscriber metering, alongside a monthly option for operators who prefer not to pay up front. Deploy on your own hardware and subscriber data never leaves your network, or take the hosted option and we maintain it. Either way the cost does not climb every time you connect another customer.

Almost every competitor is cloud-only and meters per subscriber. That model works well for the vendor. It works less well for an operator whose margin is thin and whose regulator has opinions about where subscriber data lives.

Engineering services

Remote network design, RADIUS deployment, MikroTik configuration, FTTH planning with a full bill of materials, and independent network audits. Each is delivered as tested configuration and written documentation — not a set of instructions for you to follow yourself, and not an open-ended hourly engagement.

Why it exists

Culmen was not written from documentation. The quota engine, the failover logic, the staff panel and the filtering layers were each built to solve a fault on a live network carrying paying subscribers — and each still runs that network today.

That is the whole argument for using us. A vendor with fifty thousand subscribers cannot tell you why /ppp active will not filter by profile, what a scoped conntrack flush does after a routing change, or which CGNAT port block collides at which ratio. None of that is in a manual. It is learned at three in the morning, and it is built into the software you are looking at.

Who is behind it

Culmen is built by Mahmoud Hussein, BEng in Communications and Electronics Engineering from Beirut Arab University — a programme accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the United States accreditation body, continuously since 2011. BAU is one of only three ABET-accredited universities in Lebanon.

The engineering behind Culmen and the network it was built on are the same work, done by the same person. When you raise a fault, it reaches someone who has already met it.

How we work

• Scoped, not open-ended. Every service has a defined deliverable and a fixed price before it starts.
• Migrations run in parallel. Your existing platform stays up until the new one is proven. There is no cutover weekend where everything is offline and everyone is guessing.
• No lock-in by design. Perpetual licence holders keep the version they bought, running on their own hardware, indefinitely.
• Direct answers. If Culmen is not the right fit for your network, we would rather say so before you buy than support you badly afterwards.
